Getting the Look for Less

I'm all about getting "the look for less",  so I'm constantly on the hunt for a good deal. I really believe that good design can be accessible to everyone. Sometimes you just have to work and look a little harder to find good design within your budget.    Although some of the things I used to create my office/dressing room are vintage pieces, I think a very similar look can easily be achieved by anyone.

For instance, take the black and white chevron rug I used in the room. They're mainly known for edgy clothes and shoes, but Urban Outfitters also offers pretty unique home accessories.  When I'm looking for rugs or pillows, Urban Outfitters is one place I like to check out that never disappoints. Their zigzag rug bares striking resemblance to the rug I used in my office/dressing room. At just $74.00 for a 5x7 rug, the price is definitely right! and it comes in all of these great colors.

Talk about bang for the buck! You could go bold with the yellow or tangerine color or keep things calm with that soothing gray or aqua.   So which color would you use in your space?

Wall Lovin

For me, bare walls are like that sound that finger nails make as they're raking across a chalk board.  Well maybe I'm exaggerating a bit, but it's pretty painful to see.  With all the great colors and inexpensive wall art ideas out there, why not show your walls a little love?
One quick, wallet-friendly way to spruce up boring bare walls is to create a photo gallery.  Hanging clusters of frames is pretty easy to do and creates an instant focal point in the room.  Check out these photos from my inspiration files.

Framed vintage magazine covers make great wall art. Search thrift stores or ebay for vintage fashion magazines,  then frame the covers and voila! Chic, unique and cheap artwork.

Use a bold color on the wall.  Then spray paint empty frames in a color that contrasts the bold wall color.
No need for expensive art.  Empty frames are super cheap and can be found at thrift stores and fleamarkets.  The style of the frames don't have to match at all.  Painting mistmatched frames one color makes for a unified and more cohesive look.
Here a chunky framed convex mirror against a striped wall is surrounded by a grouping of mixed styled frames.  The look works since they're all painted one color.
Picture ledges are another great way to add some life to your walls and display art work and collectibles at the same time.  Lean and layer frames for a casual sophistated look.
And here a cluster of  black and white photos in black frames create a stuning focal point.
More inspiration photos..

Photo galleries can be used in both modern and vintage or eclectic styled rooms.  There are frames to match any style space. Ornate or antique frames can be used in a more traditional styled space as seen here. While clean and simple frames can be used in more modern or contemporary spaces.  So are you inspired to install a photo gallery wall in your home?

I'll have the non-alcoholic... BARCART

A recent design trend has been to add a sense of glamour and sophistication to a space by decorating it using vintage barcarts. You'd be surprised at all the cool and unique styles of vintage barcarts that are available today.

But how do you get on the band wagon with this design trend if you're like me and don't drink alcohol? I've wanted a vinatge barcart for sometime now, but felt silly buying one when I'll never have a bottle of alcohol in my house.  So I've been thinking of some alternative uses for barcarts in the home. Check these out!:

Yes!! You can use a barcart to store books, as a nightstand, or even as an endtable!  I love using things for reasons other than which they were intended. Makes for great conversation when people come over.

Here are just a few I found available online. So many different colors, styles and even sizes. There's one to go with any design style!

So what do you think?  Now that you've seen some alternative uses for barcarts, would you use a barcart in your own home?
